May 10th 2023.

On the 154th anniversary day of the Golden Spike, May 10, 2023, the Chinese Railroad Workers History Center (CRWHC) held its ribbon cutting ceremony in Chinatown, San Francisco. Built to remember the Chinese railroad workers’ enduring achievements and indelible legacy in the U.S., the CRWHC will serve as a center for different communities to hold activities at and learn about Chinese American and Asian American heritage in the U.S.

The Golden Spike historic moment on May 10, 1869 confirmed the moment when Chinese workers made their mark in American history; not only the Golden Spike that connected America’s East & West coastlines represents the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, it also nailed down the Chinese’s roots in the United States. Today, the U.S. transcontinental railroad stands not just as a launching pad that catapulted the United States into economic and political greatness but also serves as a testament to the strength, determination, and perseverance of the Chinese workers who were instrumental in building it.
